A hamburger patty as big as your face, bacon that tastes like maple syrup, fresh green chilies and a mountain of onion rings so high that you could ski down. What might that be? That my friend, is what you call a “small” meal at the amazing “Jack-n-Grill” in Denver. This place first came to my attention while watching Man vs Food on the Travel channel. The host of that show, Adam Richman, attempted to conquer “Jack-n-Grills” 7lb. burrito challenge. If memory serves me right he failed. But who could blame him? This behemoth burrito is made with 5 pounds of grilled potatoes, 12 eggs, a half pound of ham and a half pound of cheese and onions. You might be asking yourself, “what is the reward if you can ingest the equivalent of a small farm animal into your system?” Well, you will get your picture on their wall of fame so that the entire world can behold your gluttony. Also, I think that the $20 price tag is waved…(I guess that relives some of the guilt that might be associated with the endeavor) I have not yet attempted this challenge personally, nor can I honestly see myself doing it in the future, but if that burrito it is as good as some of the others things that I’ve tasted at this place it might be well worth the attempted suicide rap.
I can’t sound too self righteous about my eating habits though, because besides the ”Bacon Lovers Burger” that I had on my first visit, I indulged in what is called the “South of the Border Monster Burger” on my follow up trip a week later. This tasty little invitation to an early grave featured a full 10 oz. patty of fresh ground chuck, a slab of ham (yes ham on a hamburger, who would have thought of that) a sliced hot dog (again, pure genius) green chilies and guacamole. Oh yes, and again that mountain of onion rings I spoke of before.
All joking aside, this place is truly a fantastic place to eat. The list of awards that it has won over the years is staggering. It is a very small family run neighborhood restaurant with absolutely no pretensions, which is always a refreshing change of pace. If you are ever really hungry and in the mood for great burgers or giant burritos (along with many other choices) head over to Jack-n-Grill” at 2524 N. Federal Blvd in Denver. If you do, you just might run the risk of becoming a regular there like me.
Jack-n- Grill also has 2 newer locations at 2630 W. Belleview Ave in Littleton and also 9310 Sheridan Blvd in Westminster…Do yourself a favor and check them out!
